This loading and frame rate stuff is not good this early on in Switch's life...

I VERY much want the Switch to succeed. I love mine and already have 15 games. But I have noticed that 3 or 4 of my games have HORRIBLE load times and frame rates. Yes games still load... even on a cartridge, but how im the world is the load time on a cartridge worse than on a disc? And why are games even being released in the first place if the gameplay is choppy? There is no excuse to push out a finished product that looks like crap running. So far I have noticed this the most in Lego City Undercover and Skylanders Imaginators. The load times are killer and the game sometimes stutters. It hapoens a little in Zelda, but not enough for me to notice much and the patch helped that.

But really... quality control needs to up it's game. Whatever happened to a game actually READY for release? Guess that has been a pipe dream since before the advent of online patches.

This gen of consoles doesn't load from disks. They load from hard drives. Also Zelda loads in 13 seconds on the switch vs 29 seconds on the wii u so you're wrong in this instance.

I also don't think the switch is any less choppy than games on last gen consoles.

Isn't it as expected?
This sort of stuff improves as time goes on. By the end of the Switch's life, it should be better. Whether its as good as the new PS or Xbox is another thing, though.

No I am not wrong. Zelda loads fine mostly and I have no issue with it. It is mostly the other games I mentioned where it is worse than even an xbox 360, ps3 or ps2 loading. I was referring to systems that do not load from hard drives, such as the Wii U, 360 and PS3. Those 2 games on Switch have horrible and unnaceptable load times. Skylanders is the worst.

Woops. Forgot to mention a big offender. Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2. At first people just thought the demo was to blame for the horrible frame rate, but many are saying that it is indeed still pretty bad on the retail copy. I hope this gets patched if this reaches us here in the states.
IIRC, most of the problems come from the WiFi detection inside the machine. I noticed frame rate drops in Zelda occasionally and recently turn off my WiFi on my Switch. Stopped having problems.

You would have thought Nintendo would have fixed that by sensing that their last update did nothing. I am not too keen on messing with wifi settings everytime I want to play a game.

Just hold the home button and use airplane mode, no need to use wifi settings. Also quit whining.
Doesn't airplane mode shut down all the radios? Including the ones that make the controllers work?
The Switch cart is slower than HDDs, so you'll get the same or slower experience throughout all the current consoles.

No, you can choose to let controllers work.

When I was playing Breath of the Wild on the Wii U I noticed the framerate drop several times and the loading times seemed normal to me. Now that I'm playing on the Switch I'm actually experiencing slightly longer loading times but no hiccups in frame rate on both handheld and TV mode.

flaws:-

1: discs not disks, we stopped using disks years ago which is pretty good considering you'd need thousands of them to store one game these days.

2: There is no hard drive in the switch or Wii U. They use flash memory.

I think he was referring to PS4 and Xbox One. Installing the disc on the hard drive therefore loading from the hard drive.

This is generally expected with newer consoles. Compare launch libraries to end of life libraries for other consoles. The games get drastically better.

And thankfully devs are being pretty fast with patching in frame rate and graphical issues pretty quickly.

I haven't had any framerate problems in any Switch games, including Zelda. This is a minor issue affecting a loud minority.

Um yeah... I just got done saying that airplane mode disables stuff that I might need. Tabletop mode won't even work with it on. And gamefaqs is a place where we can talk about issues with our systems. But you are probably too ignorant to realize that.

Excellent point, TC. I anticipated my Wii U version of BOTW to have more issues, but when I heard the Switch version suffered some of the same problems, I just... I mean... lolz.

The funny thing is, I could have quoted the Nintendo board logic of "I no see teh problem = problem does not exist!!1!" just above that, and replies like this still would have been posted, lol. Ahhh, this board... hilarious.

When you enable the airplane mode, you can choose to leave the bluetooth on for the controllers.

From the top of my head: When you enter the settings (through the actual settings menu, not some power button shenanigans) and find the airplane mode setting, if you activate it there should appear options for activating or deactivating specific parts of the wireless comunication.

Oh I see. So each time I want to go airplane mode and use wirelesss controllers I have to go through the actual settings for that option?

Lord people complain about 13 seconds of loading but will play call of duty which maps take longer than 13 seconds to load. Battlefield 1's maps take a f***ing lifetime to load you can go make a snack in the time it takes battlefield to load. But THIRTEEN SECONDS is the end of a console -_-
-Lo- 11 hours ago#32
So you quote two 3rd party, multiplatform releases who have the same issues on the other platforms as well?

As far as loading goes, you people amaze me. You'll sit in an online lobby between matches for a minute or longer, patiently, to play a match that typically lasts fewer than 3, but an expensive single player game takes close to that time to load the map, which you'll go through far less, and it's an issue? You never would have lasted when the Playstation came out haha.

I also have 6 friends with Switches and not a single one has said a word about fidelity issues. There are millions of Switches in the wild and of those only a tiny fraction of that number are complainingh about it on internet message boards, a place where anyone can (and many do) lie and many have an axe to grind. But this is all anecdotal right?

This doesn't mean that the framerate issues don't exist. BotW was very well known for dipping into teens in some areas. Just because you and your 6 friends don't care doesn't mean it's not there.

I believe you said the same thing in this thread:

and not even the Nintendo diehards were agreeing with you.

I never said they don't exist. Imagine a beautiful woman with a small mole behind one ear that you rarely see because her hair covers it and it's not even that big. Now who in their right mind would discuss this person and only talk about that mole constantly?

You can find imperfections in everything. But you're an idiot if you get hung up on them. Plenty of critics mentioned occasional frame drops out of simple posterity and still awarded a 10/10 to BotW.
