I just came from over at beshesda.net on the forums and apparently veteran modders are starting leave ,because of a bunch of trolls are spamming the report features for the mods.

It's sad,but I don't blame them leaving since the administrators won't address the problem.

You are correct, I'm one of them, as my STS mod was hidden by the system yesterday for no reason except trolls reporting for no reason other than us taking a stand against mod theft, same happened with ANDREWCX recently with USO. It's sad but annoying when it stops being fun to mod and instead becomes an anxiety filled mess.

I haven't really kept up with the drama, but is it still centered on PC modders giving a big middle finger and loud proclamation of "f*** you" to people on consoles and then flipping out when their mods are transcribed for consoles anyway because of course people are going to port that stuff to consoles when they're presented with that kind of attitude? Or was there something else that happened?

Where have I ever asked for that? Have you ever seen that from me? I've never said I was anything but a normal person. The reason Im not making anymore mods is due to bethesdas site being horribly broken and causing demotivation to myself and many other modders. Along with many trolls on the site causing many issues and supporting mod theft.

No, they are still stored on your system, and mods like mine that are currently hidden from the system itself due to trolling the report button, get reinstated after several days. Since theyve broken no rules and are only hidden due to flaws in how the report function works. The point is, it shouldn't happen at all.

I didn't come here to get into all this though, only to state the OP is correct, and this is happening. People always complain about lack of variety in mods for consoles, but dont often stop to think about why that is. We are normal people and don't like to be trolled anymore than anyone else. It turns a fun hobby into stress and anxiety.

It's not nearly as simple as that, but I feel this will just cause more drama, so I won't get into it here, since it's already ongoing discussions for it over there.. For the record, I was a console modder and don't use the Nexus or release PC mods.

PS4 is the primary system I mod for, I just port my mods to Xbone without making changes from the PS4 versions. The restrictions are a common misconception, 90% of the time it will only hold you back when it comes to graphics. Most other things you can get around by messing with existing scripts or by having extensive knowledge of the CK.

Before I joined bethesda.net people kept saying it would be impossible to add new manufacturing machines to the ps4 or add new recipes to existing machines, but my mod that is made for ps4 specifically and not released elsewhere adds over 50 new manufacturing machines using a combo of the creation kit and FO4Edit.

That is just one example, it's all about what you are willing to put into it timewise

Yeah because you're probably using the vanilla assets. External stuff won't work which is why stuff like Merc pack, ncr ranger armor, all the unique weapons like those from doombased, mcam, painter (basically all weapons and armors that aren't simple retextures), campsite (the author had to reduce the mod to a vanilla tent and cooking stove to work on ps4 basically losing it's quality) armors, new additional hairs, new world spaces, player homes with unique assets, companion mods using external assets for the features or built not using bethesda vanilla CC like Dashing Danse, maccdreamy or Loving cait (basically all the good companion overhaul mods) etc will never see a release on the PS4 and in that sense the PS4 is extremely limited. You can get creative, but you're still limited to working with and around vanilla assets which takes a lot of the fun out of mods and just makes it more like a game with a limited in-game modding system eg; littlebigplanet manipulating the same assets rather than creating fresh content. I have both versions, but switched over to xbox one for that reason. All the gun mods on ps4 for example are just the vanilla guns with added effects or features which is extremely boring compared to xbox one's library of weapons especially the ones that bring in entirely new weapons like the crossbow mod.

I think you've done too much reading and not enough actual playing honestly. No offense meant by that. I mean, I guess if graphics are your main thing, then yeah, that's not gonna work out on PS4.

Also, last I checked new world spaces are not external (I was working on for quite a while that I have not released yet, for ps4)

Now sure how the Simple Camping mod using a vanilla tent makes it function any worse. But again, that's all opinion based.

Most mods that require scripts can still be made on PS4, people just don't take the time to learn to do so.

There is way too much he said, she said that goes on concerning PS4 mods, mostly by people who know nothing of the actual process, unfortunately. I personally don't care about graphics, I care about mechanics, of which we have lots of ps4 mods for.

Scrap that Commonwealth was just released as a sister mod to STS, and is a collab mod Tim-Timman and myself. It has mechanics that no other scrapping mod has ever had, and also makes the entire commonwealth scrappable paired with another of tim-Timmans mods (build anywhere) which will soon be integrated into STC. It disables no precombines at all, so no FPS, Previs or culling issues, and is a whopping 6 megabytes, non of these are true for any other scrapping mod, and guess what system it was released for? PS4

New world spaces/ player homes that add more than just vanilla assets and external scripts itt most of elianora's mods will not work.

The camping site mod is not only using vanilla assets but it's also missing more than half of the features in the xbox one version. It's not just graphics, you're making light of the problem. You cannot add external scripts that make the game perform in a way Bethesda did not program it to only work off of internal ones. The manufacturing mod is still using a vanilla script. This means mods that add entirely new effects not in the vanilla script, out of the question. Mods that add brand new weathers like true storms that are not in the vanilla game's script, out of the question and so on and so on. If it was simply graphics, we'd see more of these external asset using mods on the ps4.

Scrapping is an already in-game mechanic, adding to the list of things you can scrap is spoiler alert still using the vanilla mechanic. You're saying some of the top and most established modders on nexus don't know what they're doing?

What really sucks is that mods that add completely new mechanics to the game such as sim settlements (https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/4012168) won't work either. It sucks because all the game changing ones use external stuff.

Actually the author of the real camp mod fadingsignal never made a PS4 version. He says he can't right on the page.

PS4 VERSION IS UNFORTUNATELY NOT POSSIBLE :( This mod uses lots of new mesh/texture assets and scripts, none of which cannot be used in mods for PS4. I'm sorry!

The camp mod that was on PS4 was another authors attempt to make an alternative. You guys are talking about the one from andrew and it used none of the external scripts the real camp mod used. You had to throw the camping gear as grenades, and you had to attack and destroy them when done in order to remove them from the game world rather than simply repacking.
RIP Sheploo you will be missed.

@teones

So I take it you have no idea how the Papyrus script system actually works.

You can make 'new scripts' on PS4 by combining vanilla scripts on objects and other things and completely edit the properties of said scripts. Again, to do this, you need to understand what you are even doing, which is why most people don't bother.

Scrapping in the sense you are speaking of is in vanilla. That's not what I'm talking about at all, but without using the mod yourself you'd never understand. PC nor Xbox has a scrapping mod with the mechanics that the new one we are working on has. Nor do they have on allowing scrapping the entire commonwealth without damaging FPS by disabling precombine, because this required scripting in FO4Edit, something you probably don't even know exists, so I won't get into how that works.

Now, you can continue to discuss things you've read, rather than done, but that will lead us in circles and I have no time to explain modding in depth to you. Ive done things in my PS4 mods that outright show that you are incorrect, and that's enough for me. Have a good day

I started modding back on Wolfenstein 3d, and moved onto Doom, Duke3d, heretic, Hexen, anything that uses a build engine, then on Resident Evil for PSX, have spent 6 years modding FFT for PSX, 4 on New Vegas for PS3 and now Fallout 4. It's really just playing around and learning languages at first, once you know the language the game uses, itso much easier.

Learning to use and edit in Hex helps a lot too lol

These days you'd also do well to learn visual basic and play around with unity a bit as well (something I didn't have the luxury of back then) to give you a basic understanding of game design and coding in general

Haha, well even doing that you are miles ahead of most :) the first 90% of your game making, modding, coding life is trial and error and seeking help from those who can assist you without doing the work for you.

And exactly, those 10% are why I kept doing it so long, they definitely gave and still give me a lot of motivation, you can find many of them in the Bonus section of my 'Cages Overhauled & More' mod on PS4 (something else that didn't exist in near its capacity on either PC or XB1 until I made it)

Remember, if you have the will and dedication, anything is possible, given enough time and effort. You might hulk smash a few monitors in the process, but that's all part of the process.

If you ever wanna bounce ideas off me, you can PM me here, or you can find me on a couple different sites under the name Elric or 3lric (I'm an admin under the name Elric, in a Final Fantasy Tactics modding community that should he easy to find with that info)

Mods took fo4, and skyrim to new heights. Skyrim is like a new game again. They make a good experience all the more fun. Game devs should embrace the modders, because they create buzz, and replayability for the product. Look how many people bought skyrim se just for the mods. One of the first times i came to this site was to get gameshark codes for golden eye, someone had a guide to make your own. That was how i learned to modify hex code, and how the games worked. I wonder if that bord is still here?

A definite shame that modders are leaving due to the actions of probably just a handful of trolls, or maybe just even one really sad neckbeard in his mother's basement spamming reports using dozens of VPN accounts.

Mods like STS, Freefall, Simple Settlers and the like really fixed so many issues with the game that Beth just couldn't be bothered to polish up themselves, or just were too lazy to spend time to patch themselves. The things that have been done with custom scripts and bug fixes even with the PS4 restrictions make it a new game.

The only thing now that's missing really is a good lighting mod like Dolomite or Rustic for Skyrim, as even though graphics aren't the be all and end all, it would be nice to see a few different palette options, and the current weather mods such as Weather Redux, Atmospheric Commonwealth, or the polluted fog mod are very niche.

Most of the big PC modders have already done the same. I'm sure Beth is aware there's a problem.
