This is so dumb to me. It's not market driven, it's ideologically driven. The advertisers are still willing to advertise on these channels. So youtube is just missing out on money.

It's not censorship. It's just bankrupting people who don't publish the types of videos you prefer until they all go away because you've forced them out of the market. Totally different.

And this is why a lot of people have been switching to other platforms like Twitch.

And this is all being done to pander to advertisers, it's absolutely disgusting. Youtube should be taking a stand for the sake of their creators instead of just bending over for advertisers who only want family friendly content

People go to YouTube to see their creators not the advertisers

Youtube at this point is basically just saying "Hey twitch!! Hey vimeo!! Feel free to take all of our users and thus, all of our revenue!! Here's your big chance!!"

Youtube has been going down an obnoxious orwellian slope for years and years, its just going to help other sites take all their talent

That's where they're being tricky, though. They're not suppressing or deleting anything, as people are still free to upload those videos. However, with their revenue stream cut, it'll be far more difficult to justify putting in the effort, so the community of people who do so will naturally die out. Same result, but they can still claim the high ground.

Youtube is bound to lose its gameing community, Twitch is like leagues better for gamers. If they allowed video uploads like a series, game over for youtube.

It's not youtube's fault

Companies don't want their advertisements on certain types of videos, and that's completely fair because they're the ones paying for them. Youtube has to flag those videos otherwise they can't enforce this.

Agreed. Its still defacto censorship.

It is Youtube's fault. They are kissing the ass of the ad companies, but ignoring all the issues this causes with the creators. When there are no more creators, what will Youtube be?

Also the ad companies are stupid. So are the media covering it. I mean they raged about a video of a guy showing how stab proof vests are actually not stab proof.

Lmao, no

IT's youtube's fault

There are plenty of companies that would have no problem advertising on those videos. Those who don't want to can have the option to opt out

Youtube is imposing its morality on the relationship between the content producers and the advertisers

On the censorship, I suppose it depends on what you mean. It's not as if you can no longer post violent video game montages, you just won't be able get any money from them. You can argue that this a case for indirect censorship since it's discouraging people who make money from youtube to upload elsewhere to get revenue while those that don't bother with monetizing are unaffected.

Regardless this is a really stupid decision.

It's just a consequence of the really stupid internet advertising model.

Advertisers shotgun money and ads, and there's no telling where any given ad will appear or what any given ad on a site is going to be. Instead of researching site demographics or placing specific ads on specific URLs, the advertisers attempt to profile individuals and follow them from site to site, which inevitably leads to Trivago or someone inadvertently "sponsoring" a nazi skinhead site or gore videos or something.

I think that sort of argument ends up being overly broad to be useless. You could group in negative criticism of media as some kind of censorship, because people will be deterred from spending money on things that review poorly, and thus shut down the creator's revenue stream and their motivation to create.

Keeping it simple, where censorship is barring the creation or release of something, prevents it from reaching "boy who cried wolf" type of situation. I'm so sick of hearing censorship being called where there is none that I've started to tune out all those cries.

I don't get why people on this board try so hard to deny any instances of censorship. Though, I don't really care about this in general.

No one is denying an instance of censorship. People are saying it literally isn't censorship and they're right

I get why idiots are against "violent video games"(yet have no problem with the latest Hollywood action flick showing up as an ad before a video), but why hate wrestling?

It's not an argument that I agree with, just something I could see someone saying. I do agree with you that the term gets too easily tossed around in a reactionary way.
