whenever issues of things like how infamously s***ty our streets are, paying Orleans parish firefighters the backpay they're owed or helping subsidize costs on certain properties to help remove or clean up houses that have been rotting abandoned since after Katrina all we ever get is Mitch Landrieu crying poor saying the city is broke and can't afford to do any of those things and we just had another round of this with Landrieu and this is after we had a HUGE tax spike to do all the things I mentioned .

Oh and let's also not forget how Mitch Landrieu LIED and said an anonymous donor is paying the costs of removing and storing the statues when it turns out there was no anonymous donor and it was taxpayers footing the bill AFTER Mitch said he couldn't afford to fix our streets or give backpay to city employees who are owed literal years of pay from the city

But I'm sure you think pissing away taxpayer dollars for the sake of Landrieu farming votes and profiting off their removal is ok because racism, right?

it's okay because I don't live in a place with those kinds of statues in the first place

i wouldn't exactly call them 'harmless', but it seems like other things should have been prioritized.

I find this hard to believe. Anyone who hasn't been paid for "literal years" would have to be a complete sucker to continue working there.

You have no idea

-NOPD is seriously underfunded and understaffed

-NOFD is still owed back pay from the city and are underfunded and understaffed

-The New Orleans public schools are underfunded

-Our streets our s***ty on levels none of you will ever understand

-Many main bridges in and out of the city are seriously not in good shape and in need of major repairs

-There are literally thousands of decrepit and abandoned houses from after Katrina

-Our muder rate and crime rate is competely out of control

-Many of the city's poorer and usually more "diverse" residents are being pushed out of their neighborhoods by Landrieu approved gentrification

I could go on for literally days of the things that should get attention before a bunch of harmless statues, but of course according to CE catering to feelings is more imortant than any of the problems I mentioned

you should know by now that inept government prioritizes feel-good accomplishments to avoid having to tackle more difficult problems

politicians have a long history of doing "quick wins" that immediately appeal to voters at the expense of long term stability. improving roads isn't sexy and doesn't give people a feeling of "woah this is new and exciting".

New roads are definitely sexy and exciting.

besides, half the reason people even visit New Orleans, even before Katrina, was because it was a quaint little s***hole. it's got a lot of culture that emerged as a direct result of it being s***ty

when voters are faced with picking new roads or a sexy new football stadium, which do you think they'll pick? it's not the sensible choice, btw.

farming votes

You mean doing what the voters want you to do. Why do you hate democracy?

You keep accusing him of doing things the public want, solely for the sake of votes . . . couldn't the opposite side accuse your favored politician of doing whatever they're doing to just be "farming votes" from conservative idiots?

Lol what? Mich Landrieu is doing this AGAINST the will of the NOLA voters, that is the literal opposite of democracy, it's why when it was suggested by the rational council members that it be decided by a city wide vote Landrieu shot it down and said I'm taking them down anyway. It's almsot as if he knew if it was put to a city wide vote, we'd vote to leave them in place and he'd look like a fool with egg all over his face

New Orleans does not want these monuments taken down, we have made it very clear that Mitch Landrieu does not represent the interests of the people of New Orleans. He's talking about running for governor or even president and is only doing this to farm votes in places outside of New Orleans that have no business saying what should stay or go in place they have know literally nothing about other than Landrieu propaganda

but even if that were true, good on him for dragging that wretched city kicking and screaming into the present. It's called leadership.

So then why wouldn't Landrieu allow the decision to go to a city wide vote?

Unlike you I'm actually from New Orleans and see what goes on here first hand, these monunents are landmarks and bothered nobody but handful of motherf***ers who mostly aren't from here

Shut the f*** up, how f***ing dare YOU an outsider say what's good for MY hometown. I'd rather die than allow my city to be stripped of it's uniqueness and culture by a bunch of outsiders who have no idea what they're talking about

It actually is if you don't make decisions based entirely on feeling, reality is this is pissing away MY tax dollars on something as trivial as the feelings of outsiders

I don't know what 3rd world s***hole you all come from but maybe if they spent their tax money on education instead of removing monuments that hurt a select few people's feelings things like basic reading comprehension wouldn't be lost among you

btw Lee and his buddies should have been hanged, the loose treatment the "South" received after the war has made the region a thorn in the side of America ever since.
