http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/north-korea-nuclear-latest-warhead-missile-report-miniature-us-intelligence-a7883101.html
North Korea is said to be able to produce a miniaturised warhead that can fit inside the kind of missiles it has recently been testing and which analysts believe could reach the US mainland.

A US media report said that the finding was contained last month in an analysis completed by the US Defence Intelligence Agency. It said the intelligence community had recently concluded the East Asian nation had up to 60 nuclear weapons.

“The IC [intelligence community] assesses North Korea has produced nuclear weapons for ballistic missile delivery, to include delivery by ICBM-class missiles,” the assessment stated, according to the Washington Post.

There has been no public, independent confirmation of the report and the news comes against a backdrop of mutual sabre-rattling by Washington and Pyongyang. As North Korea has continued to test intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that potentially have the ability to reach Alaska or Hawaii, Donald Trump and his top officials have warned that “nothing is off the table” when it comes to dealing with the challenge.

A week ago, the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, said Washington would not seek UN Security Council action following North Korea’s latest missile test, because “the time for talk is over”.

Over the weekend, the UN Security Council unanimously voted to approve new sanctions that included a ban on coal and other exports worth more than $1bn. North Korea responded by saying it would launch a “thousands-fold” revenge against the US.

I don't like it, but NK is the one nation I absolutely support going to war with. Yeah, it'll be super bad for South Korea, but the longer this stalemate goes on, the worse it'll be when war inevitably does break out. Better to take them out now than wait until they can fire missiles across continents.

I dunno. They seem to want to try and make the country collapse from the inside over a war - which is understandable given the damage they could do to SK.

It's funny how wildly wrong pundits on news networks are. I watched more than once during the missile issue this year "experts" sit there and say they were years away from miniaturizing a nuke so it could fit on a missile. Almost makes me wonder if some other agenda was at play.

If NK says it's capable of producing a miniaturized warhead, I might believe it. But if you don't get why people are sceptical of stories linked to US intelligence sources after the government disinformation campaign over WMDs to invent the case for war with Iraq, then more fool you.

They fire a single warhead aimed at anyone and in less than 24 hours they will be occupied by every nation. You just have to be lucky that you aren't the town where the first and probably only missile lands in.

Amusingly, they were doing this back during that witch hunt for Iraqi WMD's. While we insisted they had them, they insisted they didn't, and our whole justification to go in was "But WMD's!", North Korea was sitting on the side yelling at the top of their lungs "WE HAVE THE WMD'S! THEY ARE RIGHT HERE AND WE ARE CRAY CRAY!"

Why would North Korea fire a test missile at Russia that doesn't make sense. Also, North Korea launched an ICBM into the Sea of Japan a few weeks ago and it hand enough hangtime in it to reach the US mainland.

nope

Saddam didn't let weapon inspectors do their job and the U.N. was upset about it
they also had SCUD missiles as reported by newpapers that broke U.N. treaties as to how far they could fire

March 3In its regular 60 day review, the United Nations Security Council votes to maintain sanctions on Iraq. This is the 36th review since sanctions were first imposed in 1990.

June 21The U.N. demands Iraq allow inspection teams access to disputed sites.

Nov. 12The U.N. Security Council unanimously approves Resolution 1137 condemning Iraq for its decision to expel Americans from U.N. weapons inspection teams.

Jan 13-22Iraq withdraws co-operation with U.N. inspectors, claiming too many members are American and British and denies U.N. inspectors access to presidential sites.

Jan. 27President Clinton intensifies U.S. pressure on Iraq to open its suspect weapons sites, warning Saddam Hussein not to "defy the will of the world."

April 6President Clinton in a new report to Congress on Iraq's non-compliance with UNSC resolutions says Iraq remains a threat to international peace and security.

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1998/12/16/transcripts/clinton.html
President Clinton explains Iraq strike

Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.

Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons.

And if he is that crazy, which he isnt, then his generals and uncles and whatever are skart enough to not want to be blown up because of some crazy f***, they will find a way to keep themselves and country alive, and the only way to do that is to not put the worlds biggest target on their bqck

People like to think about it for a few minutes and just assume a bunch of s*** based on rhetoric. But the people in power in North Korea are living that as their entire life. They have everyday to think about the repercussions of what will hapen if they try to fight anyone. They know its a terrible idea, they just dont want anyone to know that they know.

If NK was really a threat, wouldn't we nuke them preemptively? Since invading is dangerous for South Korea?

No. Preemptively nuking NK might actually provoke China.

why would China expect us to wait for NK to attack us before we take em out? seems unfair. edit: meaning, if we knew they were going to attack us at any moment it'd be unfair for us to wait for lives to be lost

If the US shows they are willing to proactively use nukes in these days of MAD, then other countries are liable to expect the same to occur to them and treat America accordingly.

what about if renegade countries like NK show they're willing to proactively use nukes? then other countries will begin to worry about other renegade countries.

Im pretty sure we already can determine NK is willing, so not sure what your point is.

I think we're actually waiting for NK to make the first move. That way it would be nearly impossible for any politician on either side of the aisle here to not support a war.
But yeah, I think a full on war with NK is inevitable. It's just that that was a thing a decade or more down the line until lately. Now it's probably within a year.

I wouldn't be too worried if we actually had a mentally stable person leading this country, or if they were able to take the military powers away from Trump for a bit and just give them to his generals instead or something along those lines

Trumps too inept to deal with this

Trump is not the only one making the decisions. The actual decision to go to war with North Korea will be handled by actual vets and competent generals

He's shown to be easily influenced. He always goes back on his words after somebody semi-competent tells him that it's a bad idea, which is what I meant by the decision isn't ultimately up to him

Trump can be talked into anything. His constant illogical backpedals are a good indicator

    We aren't going to war.

If they ever do try and nuke us, gmd will take it right out of the sky. After that, we'll probably just cut of all trade ties with them as their allies dump them.

Maybe if the fire more, we threaten to fire back, or deploy troops. Or both.
