I think it's a matter of of not being very likeable/personable, and not having any strong convictions. As someone who voted for her, I did not like her very much as a candidate, I just preferred her to Trump, as I lean more Democratic/Liberal. She just struck me as very ... idk, like robotic or manufactured. Like one of those boy bands who are put together by the industry, except the political version.

It's over-determined; the margin is so small you can point to any number of things, say "that's what caused it" and be basically correct.

She wins if not for the electoral college
She wins if not for the Comey letter
She wins if not for the Obamacare premium increases
She wins if not for her vote on Iraq
She wins if Jill Stein voters had voted for her
She wins if she had made legalizing pot a campaign issue
She wins if she had fired Huma Albedin or John Podesta or Robby Mook a while back

All correct, in a technical sense. The explanation you choose to focus on is a reflection of your personal beliefs and biases.

She was a terrible candidate who had too many scandals. Some of which had a bit of legitimacy. She also played perfectly into Trump's campaign about crooked establishment politicians. No one outside of the crowd who just wanted to see the first woman president seemed to have any enthusiasm about her as a candidate. I also agree that she ran a poor campaign. It seemed like the big selling point she kept trying to use was that she wasn't Trump. The party should have taken a hint and distanced themselves from her after she lost to Obama.

Also I want to say, if anything, it's that she underestimated the intelligence of the average voter. That's the truth.

After annihilating Bernie she made the fatal mistake of catering to Bernie bros and the "free shit" crowd instead of snapping back to the center, which turned off the majority of swing voters
    Who is John Galt?
She was a shitty candidate that was likely to lose to the majority of the GOP field. There's a reason why she polled bad against everyone but Trump and Cruz during the early primary days, and considering how many "Never Trump" Repubs went back on their word when he became the nominee, it wouldn't have shocked me that even Cruz would have gotten the same level of support.

EDIT: Not to mention there was a good 20+ year push from Conservatives to demonize her at every possible chance, both for legitimate and illegitimate reasons.

Her campaign strategy was a failure, and the DNC platform of identity politics backfired in a big way. The entire convention was pandering to minorities and spouting victim rhetoric that is not appealing to mainstream American voters. This turned off working class whites who swung the electoral vote for Trump, and it didn't even secure votes from minorities to offset this, who showed up in far lower numbers than they did for Obama.

Realistically, all it would have taken was a slightly stronger focus on some of the midwest states, and she'd have won. Note, however, that this is only true against Trump, who was a historically weak candidate. If Hillary had been running against someone like Mitt Romney, she'd have lost in a blowout.
