Trying to have an equal number of people in each race despite the fact that there aren't an equal number of applicants in each race puts the majority at a disadvantage. Oppressing white people is the definition of reverse discrimination. Don't deny it.

In my business law & ethics class they taught us that an Affirmative Action plan is only imposed when a company is proven to have discriminated, and it's seen as imperfect but necessary solution to prevent it in the future

I also happen to lean more to the left, but I can still see that affirmative action is mostly a garbage movement. In fact, holding onto an archaic movement that was once useful for helping minorities but has no practical modern day use is a very conservative mindset to have.

Affirmative action has been applied very inconsistently over the years. It almost seems as if every employer and school is allowed to decide for themselves whether they want to establish a racial quota. For that reason there needs to be some law that prohibits institutions from taking race into consideration at all when deciding which applicants to accept.

Racial quotas are illegal. At least when it comes to private businesses

i'm sure a lot of minorities would disagree that affirmative action has no practical use.

ok, but i'm right and don't feel the need to describe myself as 'not racist' because by virtue of my birth i benefit from being white.

i'm also liberal on most issues unless somebody decides to inform me that affirmative action in 2017 is conservative, in which case i hold a conservative viewpoint. lol.

i think you should prioritize the things you give a s*** about tbh

Myth 10: Support for affirmative action means support for preferential selection procedures that favor unqualified candidates over qualified candidates.
Actually, most supporters of affirmative action oppose this type of preferential selection. Preferential selection procedures can be ordered along the following continuum:

Selection among equally qualified candidates. The mildest form of affirmative action selection occurs when a female or minority candidate is chosen from a pool of equally qualified applicants (e.g., students with identical college entrance scores). Survey research suggests that three-quarters of the public does not see this type of affirmative action as discriminatory (Roper Center for Public Opinion, 1995d).

Selection among comparable candidates. A somewhat stronger form occurs when female or minority candidates are roughly comparable to other candidates (e.g., their college entrance scores are lower, but not by a significant amount). The logic here is similar to the logic of selecting among equally qualified candidates; all that is needed is an understanding that, for example, predictions based on an SAT score of 620 are virtually indistinguishable from predictions based on an SAT score of 630.

Selection among unequal candidates. A still stronger form of affirmative action occurs when qualified female or minority candidates are chosen over candidates whose records are better by a substantial amount.

Selection among qualified and unqualified candidates. The strongest form of preferential selection occurs when unqualified female or minority members are chosen over other candidates who are qualifiedAlthough affirmative action is sometimes mistakenly equated with this form of preferential treatment, federal regulations explicitly prohibit affirmative action programs in which unqualified or unneeded employees are hired (Electronic Code of Federal Regulations, 2011).

The fact that the stronger forms in the 3rd and 4th paragraphs still exist is a problem though. You only emphasized the forms where an unqualified candidate is preferred on the basis of being a minority. Even if someone has decent qualifications, their race/ethnicity/gender should never be taken into account except maybe for the really mild form outlined in the second paragraph.

Imagine being this young. You're still just a baby trying to swim in the ocean of politics. I don't know if it's scary or sad people old enough to post on CE are this sheltered.

And no I'm not just being mean, in a world like this where jokes like this are still relevant

That depends on who we're talking about. Sometimes they'll consider how many minorities they have already when deciding which applicants they want to hire. Some schools also still have a plan to split each race evenly into quarters.
